Home For Dinner Volunteer

Our wonderful Home for Dinner volunteer groups purchase groceries and come into the House 365 days a year to provide dinner for families! One or two group members must attend an in-person orientation at the House.

Front Host Volunteer

Assist with receptionist duties such as answering the phone, greeting guests, taking donations/payments, and checking families in and out of the House. Also help with other House tasks including dishes, laundry, and activities.

Minimum commitment: 1 year.

House Refresher Volunteer

Help ensure our communal areas stay tidy, clean, organized, and well stocked for family use. Duties include sanitizing surfaces, stocking fridges and freezers, emptying recycling and garbage bins, making coffee, vacuuming, dusting, etc.

Minimum commitment: 2 shifts per month for six months.

Shuttle Driver Volunteer (Calgary and Edmonton)

Ensure families have safe, convenient access to the hospital. Shuttle applicants must submit 10-year driver’s abstract, letter of experience, and insurance form (provided by RMHC Alberta). After every trip, a shuttle tracking form must be submitted and drivers are responsible for sanitizing the passenger space.

Minimum commitment: 2 shifts per month for six months.

Baker Volunteer

The smell of fresh baking is comforting and makes our House feel like home! Using approved recipes, bakers prepare a variety of items (eg. 3–4 dozen cookies or squares), all of which must be individually packaged. Basic ingredients are provided.

Minimum commitment: 2 shifts per month for six months.

Facility Support Volunteer

Work with our facilities team to assist with various tasks (season dependent) such as repairs, maintenance, cleaning, moving items/furniture, property maintenance, gardening, and more.

Minimum commitment: 2 shifts per month for six months.

Event Volunteer

Do you have some spare time but can’t commit to a regular shift schedule? Are you looking for a few volunteer hours for your program and want to help the House? You can sign up to help us at events in the community where we get to share our mission.

Comfort Cart Volunteer (Calgary and Red Deer)

In partnership with Alberta Health Services, the Comfort Cart brings the comforts of the Ronald McDonald House to families in hospital. This volunteer-led initiative serves snacks, beverages, hygiene items, comfort items, and more to families with seriously sick and injured children.
