It goes without saying that COVID-19 is an unprecedented crisis. Like so many, Ronald McDonald House Charities® Alberta is navigating through uncharted territory and, as a result, we are having to make some tough decisions.
Out of an abundance of caution for the health of our families and guided by the best practices of our global network and public health recommendations, we are carefully and compassionately suspending regular operations until we are sure it’s safe for all of our stakeholders.
Effective March 21st, we are no longer accommodating new families. Only current families and essential staff are permitted into Ronald McDonald Houses. We’ve suspended all volunteer and community engagement activities, And fundraising events are postponed until it’s safe to bring people together again.
In spite of these difficult decisions, our supporters continue to amaze us. Our Hero from Home campaign is gathering momentum; a vote of confidence in RMHC Alberta. We know it’s a difficult time to ask for your continued support; but we hope you will find a way.
What’s at stake? A lot.
RMHC Alberta runs on your donations. Like so many others, we’re paying close attention to our finances, and we know there will be challenges ahead of us. Please consider our families in the coming weeks and months, so that when we get through this, we’ll be in a position to serve them again as quickly as possible.
When a child is sick, nothing is more important than family. RMHC Alberta is more than just a roof over our families’ heads; it’s an essential service, as much now as it was before COVID-19. Vital to the continuum of family-centred care and critical to how pediatric health care is delivered in our province, our four Houses are not a nice to have; they are a must have.
Over 65% of families live outside of a city with a children’s hospital. RMHC Alberta alleviates the financial, emotional, and physical burdens on families who must travel long distances for the specialized care their sick or injured child needs. When a child is sick, the whole family is sick. RMHC Alberta understands this and is the bridge to quality health care by supporting the whole family throughout their medical journey.
When we get through this, our families will need you more than ever. In fact, family is everybody’s top priority right now. Thank you for your past support, and everything you will do today – and tomorrow – to help us continue to serve.
